as we were hoping (so that we wouldn't have to be anxious all day), Julie called around 10:45 am on Tuesday. she asked me "are you ready for some good news?" "heck YES!" and then she gave it to me - we passed court and Dawit is finally legally our son! hallelujah and praise the Lord! i can breathe now. i can let me guard down (and maybe throw it away for good!). i can let all of my mommy instincts for him take over 110%.
and, oh, WOW! there's no time to linger over the celebration as there is SO much to be accomplished now. hence the 3 day delay in this post! our tentative travel dates are august 22 - august 28, with Gotcha Day being august 24th. i have three weeks to:
-get my three "at home" kiddos ready for a new school year (buying their supplies and uniforms is akin to a minor military operation in itself)
-fit in some last minute summer-type fun...when the weather remembers that it IS summer
-paint things...furniture, frames, walls, cats...just seeing if you read this far
-deep clean like a maniac
-buy baby things! this is the fun part but kind of overwhelming as we held off on this in our guarded moments
-PACK to travel to a third world (developing??) country and pick up a baby who may need any number of things...my disney world packing list will not suffice
-HOPEFULLY collect donations for the orphanage
-deep clean more things...i'm eyeing ALL the carpets
-LOVE on the kids extra much!!
-oh, pack for the three kids that will go to their God-parents while we're away
-blog
-appointments, appointments, appointments
i know there are more things but...i'll spare you cause we've all "been there"!
anyhow, we're really REALLY thankful that we were permitted to start this journey last september and cannot wait to finish it when we bring Dawit home. he's a beautiful little peanut of a baby and i'm so excited to get my hands on his face, to cover him with kisses, to shower him with loving words, to gaze into his eyes for hours...to be his momma. it will be my prize and my privilege to do so! and while i can't stand that time actually DOES fly, and i don't want to take the next three weeks away from T, C and M...i'm so eager to get my projects done and get to my prize.

Oh the JOY that fills my soul on your behalf- HE is beautiful....and all those things will get done......and you will get to pick him up and hold him....and you will melt.....and I just can't wait to hear all about it!!!!! Congratulations!!!! Your post cracked me up...yes I made it to the cat painting part and I love that you can't reference your Disney packing list. lol! Have fun in August...Dawit is a DOLL!!!!

Can't believe I am just now visiting you! Are you guys in CO???? we are in NM and don't know anyone close with AGCI. We are 2-3 weeks behind you with a court date next week. We also have 3 kiddos 2 boys and a girl. I am in the weird limbo of needing to do so much but not wanting to plan knowing that we may still have a wait in front of us. Were you by any chance on the conference call Wed? Someone in your travel group was. Anyway, I loved your post and can totally relate! Happy packing and I am glad I found you at such an exciting time. Your boy is beautiful!
